Surviving are three daughters, Norma Morley, of Berrien Springs, Mich; Pat Harris, of Long Beach, and Melodie Bell, of Arizona; two sons, Donald of Frankford, Ill, and Joe, of New Carlisle; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Irene Brown and Jean Snyder, both of Laporte, and Eunice Schoff, of Stevensville, Mich, and four brothers, Foster of Plymouth, Ind; James of New Carlisle, and Dale and Harold, both of LaPorte. One grandson, Joe; one granddaugher, Bertha, and two borthers, preceded him in death. Ada Elizabeth ‎(Barnes)‎ Zellers, 90 of Rolling Prairie, Indiana passed away on Saturday February 16, 2013 at La Porte Hospital, Indiana. She had been a resident of Miller’s Merry Manor in New Carlisle, Indiana.
Ada was born August 21, 1922 to Harley & Ruth May ‎(Gilbert)‎ Barnes in Rolling Prairie, Indiana and was a lifelong resident. Ada is a member of Post #9423 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She worked very hard on the family farm and enjoyed baking, turtle fishing, watching the Cubs win or lose, and being with family and friends. Ada was a strong willed lady whom will be dearly missed! She is survived by her son, Richard ‎(Peggy)‎ Bennitt of Plymouth, IN, a step-daughter Alison ‎(Solon)‎ Howard of McCalla, AL; daughter-in-law, Barbara Bennitt; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a step grandchild. Also, surviving is a brother Dale ‎(Joyce)‎ Barnes of Rolling Prairie, IN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Foster Bennitt, her subsequent husband Lester Zellers and a close friend Bill Baird; her sister Barbara Ann Barnes, her brother Robert Barnes, a son Harry Bennitt, a grandson Woody Bennitt and two step sons Bruce & Wade Zellers. The funeral for Mr. Harold A. Bennitt, Sr, 76, of LaPorte, will be Monday at 2:30 pm at Haverstock Funeral Home. He died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at 4:20 am at his home. Friends may call Monday from 11 am until the service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. He was born April 20, 1926, in Wills Township, LaPorte County, to Fred and Nellie ‎(Reed)‎ Bennitt, and had lived all his life in LaPorte County. Mr. Bennitt retired in 1984 from Dye's Plumbing and Heating as general manager, industrial division, after 37 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Elks Moose Lodge 492 of LaPorte and past president of St. Joseph Valley Builders Exchange. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. On Aug. 18, 1944, in Wichita Falls, Texas, he married Helen M. Martenson, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Judy Ann Harenza of LaPorte and Thelma June Eigenmann of St. Charles, Mo; one son, Harold A, Jr, of Laporte, five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, one sister, Jean Snyder of Kokomo, and one brother, James of New Carlisle. Mrs. Eunice Olene Schoff, 71, Stevensville, Mich, and formerly of LaPorte, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Wills Township, to Winfred and Nellie ‎(Reed)‎ Bennitt. Mrs. Schoff was a member of the American Baptist Church in Michigan; and had retired in 1989 as a clerk after 30 years at Goldblatts. On Sep. 6, 1947, in LaPorte, she married Richard L. Schoff, who died Oct. 1, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. Surviving are two daughers Jan Kapustka of Imlay, Mich., and Darlene State of Stevensville, two grandchildren, two sisters, Irene Brown of LaPorte, and Jean Snyder of Kokomo, and two brothers, Harold Bennitt of LaPorte, and James Bennitt of New Carlisle. The funeral will be at 11 am Monday at Haverstock Funeral Home with Pastors Brian Rumer and Dan Hanna officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 7 pm Sunday and from 8 am until the service Monday. Burial will be in Olive Chapel Cemetery in New Carlisle. Geloras J. Snyder, 81, of Kokomo, Indiana, formally of La Porte, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. She was born December 3, 1931 in Puddletown, Indiana, the daughter of Winifred "Fred" Bennitt and Nellie ‎(Reed)‎ Bennitt. Over the years, she worked at Hilbish Drug Store, Plimpton Press, Kline Excavating, and lastly, as manager at Commons Apartments. She was a wonderful cook and everyone loved her deserts and pies. Geloras was also known for her roses in the neighborhood and was even called the "Rose Lady." On June 19, 1948, in La Porte, IN, she married Richard Snyder who preceded in death May 6, 1996. She is survived by her 3 sons - William Snyder of Union County, IN, John ‎(Deb)‎ Snyder of Kokomo, IN, Charles ‎(Vicky)‎ Snyder of Liberty, IN; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Geloras was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Walter Bennitt, Arnold Bennitt, Robert Bennitt, Foster Bennitt, James "Jake" Bennitt, Winifred "Dale" Bennitt, Harold Bennitt, and her sisters, Irene Brown, and Eunice Schoff. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
